AMP appoints senior adviser as strategy strengthens

AMP Super has appointed Richard Millington to the newly-created role of director, employer and adviser partnerships. The superannuation provider made the move to strengthen its engagement with employers and financial advisers as it looks to expand its footprint in the corporate sector.
Senior leadership adds experience in workplace superannuation
Millington will join AMP on 24 August 2026 from Rest, where he most recently helped establish the fund’s workplace superannuation capability. He has also held senior roles at MLC and Munich Re, bringing experience across distribution and client relationship management.
The newly-established position will oversee AMP Super’s business development, account management and adviser partnerships teams. This structure brings together the fund’s employer and adviser engagement functions under a single leader, centralising the strategy for these key stakeholder groups.
Group executive, superannuation and investments, Melinda Howes, said the appointment reflected AMP’s focus on supporting employers, advisers and their clients. She noted that no other fund offers a member proposition like AMP Super across investment performance, service, personalised advice, and lifetime income retirement solutions.
“Bringing these teams together under one leader will help us work even more closely with employers and advisers as they support Australians to maximise their retirement income,” Howes said.

Howes said Millington had developed a strong reputation for building high-performing teams across the super and insurance sectors. She added that his experience would be invaluable as AMP continues to strengthen the support, service and solutions it provides to employers, advisers and members.
“Richard has built a strong reputation for developing high-performing teams to deliver growth in a range of different businesses across superannuation and insurance,” Howes stated.
Millington said he was looking forward to joining AMP as the business continued to develop its super offering. He expressed admiration for the company’s history in Australian financial services, particularly in corporate super.
“AMP Super offers a compelling proposition for members, employers and advisers,” Millington said. “I’m looking forward to working closely with our partners to help more Australians prepare for and handle retirement with confidence.”
This restructure comes as AMP faces increasing competition in the superannuation market. By consolidating employer and adviser functions, the fund aims to streamline the service experience for corporate clients and the advisers who often facilitate these relationships. The move suggests a broader shift toward integrated workplace solutions, where a single point of contact manages everything from fund selection to ongoing member engagement. This approach may reduce friction for employers who currently juggle multiple providers and service teams, potentially making AMP a more attractive option for large-scale corporate superannuation accounts. Millington’s background in establishing workplace capabilities at Rest indicates AMP is betting on his ability to replicate similar success within its own operations.
